The Queen turns 95, days after the funeral of Prince Philip, the man who gave her ‘strength’

Queen Elizabeth II will quietly mark her 95th birthday on Wednesday after farewelling her husband of 73 years in a funeral attended by close family members.

Traditionally, the Queen’s birthday is celebrated with a 21-gun salute, a show of respect on important occasions for royal figures dating back to the 18th century.

However, last year the guns fell silent on the Queen’s request as the nation counted almost 20,000 dead from the coronavirus pandemic.
