Severe storms could bring up to 70mm along east coast

A thunderstorm swept through the Lockyer Valley, west of Brisbane, overnight with damaging wind gusts as it moved east towards the city.

Thousands were left without power across the south-east, with more than 1100 homes affected in Chermside, north of Brisbane, on Tuesday morning.

A thunderstorm swept through the Lockyer Valley, west of Brisbane, overnight bringing damaging wind gusts as it moved rapidly east towards the city. 

The storm started at Dalby and moved into the south-east coast district, dropping about 25 millimetres of rain in suburbs such as Inala, south-west of Brisbane.

Mr Markworth said there were reports of four-centimetre hail around Toowoomba, but it had not been confirmed.
