A government wildlife team will search for the crocodile that attacked a man in Queensland’s far north on Thursday afternoon.

The man in his 40s suffered lacerations after the incident at Lake Placid, about 11 kilometres north-west of Cairns along the Barron River, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.

He was transported from the scene, off Lake Placid Road, to the Cairns Hospital in a stable condition just before 12.45pm.

In a message posted to social media, the Environment Department confirmed the attack.

“A wildlife team is heading to the site of the attack and will undertake a search for the crocodile,” the department said.
